Pizzo Campo Tencia – Il tetto del Ticino ⩑

Ticino is a place of contrasts. In the valleys, it can feel almost Mediterranean. Higher up, the paths turn rocky, the air grows cooler, and the landscape takes on a wilder character. I love that diversity: within a single journey, Ticino can feel like several different worlds.

At 3,072 metres, Pizzo Campo Tencia is the highest mountain standing entirely within the canton. Il tetto del Ticino — the roof of Ticino.

As I climbed, my focus narrowed to the next step, the rock beneath my feet, and my breath. Then I looked up, and the world opened again. From the summit, the view stretched across the Alps, from the Gotthard regions towards the magnificent Monte Rosa massif, one of the great rooftops of Europe.

I came for the mountain, but what stays with me is that feeling of being fully there: the effort of the ascent, the quiet at the top, and the sheer variety of landscapes between valley and sky.
